The Pieta Wren Run is a 50/50 event meaning that 50% of the proceeds go to Pieta and 50% stay in the east Galway area to fund both physical and mental health initiative. By supporting this event you are in turn supporting the vital work of Pieta, who provide a FREE one to one counselling service to the most vulnerable in our society, those in suicidal crisis, people who have been bereaved by suicide and those who engage in self-harm as well as many other programs.
The difference the fantastic donation of in excess of €18,000 (over 3 years, 2016,17,18) has made to the work of Pieta is truly staggering. It is estimated that the cost of putting a client through a suit of crisis therapy in Pieta is in the region of €1000, which means that through the support of The Pieta Wren Run 18 people have been able to receive truly life changing therapy at zero cost to the client.
Our therapy is centred in compassion and respect for each person who comes to us in their hour of need. All of our therapists are experienced, compassionate men and women who understand the complex reasons behind suicide, self-harm and a bereavement to suicide. As well as their professional qualifications, each therapist is trained in the Pieta Way. This therapeutic healing model is focused on solving problems and building emotional strength.
In 2006, Pieta opened its doors in Lucan, County Dublin and since that day we have seen and helped over 40,000 people in suicidal distress or engaging in self-harm, and established fifteen subsequent centres across Ireland as well as 4 outreach centres.
We in Pieta are passionate about our life-saving work and as more than 80% of our income comes from fundraising events, we rely heavily on the support and encouragement of our volunteers and with thanks to the support or The Pieta Wren Run we are able to extend and build our service so that we can carry out our vision of creating “A World where Suicide, Self-Harm and Stigma have been replaced by Hope, Self-Care and Acceptance”.
